Who we are and these terms
Shared Noise is operated by Shared Noise Ltd, of Saxon House, Main Street, Southwick, Peterborough, PE8 5BL, United Kingdom (we, us). Contact us at sharednoise@tmlabs.co.uk. These terms cover the Shared Noise private beta app and associated service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal information; accepting these terms is not consent to every use of that information.
An invitation-only beta for adults
You must be at least 18, live in the United Kingdom and be personally invited to participate in this beta. Do not share your invitation with someone under 18. Confirm your age honestly. If you do not meet these conditions, do not create or use an account. This is a testing version: features may be incomplete, change or be withdrawn, and availability or data recovery cannot be guaranteed. Please keep your own copies of content you value. These limitations do not remove your legal rights.
Your account
Sign in using an account you control. Keep your sign-in account secure and tell us if you believe someone else has accessed Shared Noise through it. Do not impersonate someone or misrepresent your identity. You are responsible for your own conduct; you are not automatically responsible for activity outside your reasonable control. Deleting Shared Noise does not delete your Google or Apple account.
Price and music playback
Shared Noise does not charge a fee for this private beta. Your internet provider and third-party services may charge you. Full Apple Music playback requires a compatible device, availability in your region and your own eligible Apple Music subscription. Previews are available where supplied by the music provider. Music and artwork rights remain with their respective owners; using Shared Noise gives you no right to copy or redistribute recordings. We are not Apple, Google or Spotify and do not control their services. Their terms govern your use of their services. Any future paid Shared Noise offering will have clearly disclosed terms before you choose to buy it.
What other people can see
The beta is a shared community. Your profile, collection, listening activity, reviews, moments and feed interactions can be visible to other signed-in users, including people you do not follow. New record shares deliver a private conversation message and a record on each eligible recipient’s shelf. Their notes and voice attachments stay within that conversation. Older public record shares can still appear in the shared feed with their recipient and written note; their voice attachments use forwardable media links. Uploaded photos, videos and avatars also use media links that can be forwarded. Do not post material you need to keep confidential. Direct and group messages are delivered through our server to authorised participants. Private message photos and voice notes require signed-in access; they are separate from public contribution links. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Recipients may save or forward copies. Group administrators can manage membership and remove messages; joining or rejoining starts access with messages sent after you join.
Optional AI test participants
The operator can enable AI test accounts to develop and test the beta. These accounts choose records, build collections, publish synthetic reviews and sometimes respond to the enabling tester’s public reviews. Their posts and opinions are generated, and are not evidence of a person listening to a record. Dedicated AI conversations send limited text context to OpenAI to produce replies. These conversations are restricted to the enabling tester and their AI participants; other people cannot be added. AI replies may be inaccurate, delayed or unavailable. The tester can pause AI activity and replies in Messages. Ordinary human conversations and uploaded photos are not sent to the model. Voice notes sent by the enabling tester in dedicated AI conversations may be sent to OpenAI for transcription so participants can reply to their content. At the founder’s request, these test accounts can copy still photos from the founder’s existing moments into independent account-owned moments. No listening events are invented.
Your content and our permission to use it
You keep any rights you hold in the reviews, photos, videos, voice notes and other material you contribute. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, back up, reproduce, resize, display and transmit that material only as needed to operate Shared Noise, share it through the features you use, and deal with reports or legal obligations. We may allow our hosting providers to do those things for us. This does not transfer ownership, permit unrelated advertising use or permit us to sell your content. The permission ends when the content is deleted from our active service, except while retained copies are needed for backup expiry or a specific legal obligation. Other people may have kept independent copies.
Respect other people and their rights
Only upload material you have the rights and permissions to share, including permission where needed from people shown or recorded. Do not upload unlawful material, sexual exploitation or abuse material, non-consensual intimate images, hateful abuse, threats, targeted harassment, scams, spam or personal information intended to expose or endanger someone. Do not post pornography in this beta. Do not infringe copyright or other rights, evade a block or suspension, probe other accounts, disrupt the service, or attempt unauthorised access. Report a security concern privately to sharednoise@tmlabs.co.uk.
Reports, blocks and moderation
Use Report on a profile, feed item or message to ask the operator to review a concern. Include enough detail to identify the issue, without unnecessary sensitive information. Block prevents direct messaging, new record shares and account-based content visibility in both directions. In shared groups, the two accounts’ messages are hidden from each other, while group membership remains visible. Unblocking does not automatically restore follows. Blocking cannot retrieve copies already saved by others or revoke media links they already hold. We may investigate reports, restrict access, suspend accounts or remove content when reasonably necessary to address these rules, unlawful activity or risks to others. We consider the seriousness and context. Where appropriate we will explain the reason and let you contact sharednoise@tmlabs.co.uk to challenge a decision; we may withhold details where needed to protect someone, an investigation or legal obligations. Do not knowingly submit false reports. The report queue is not an emergency service.
Leaving and account deletion
You can request account deletion in Settings > Account > Delete account. We ask you to verify your identity before accepting this irreversible request. Once accepted, access closes and active account data is removed; remaining file or sign-in cleanup is retried if a provider is unavailable. Backup copies and material already saved by others are handled as described in the Privacy Policy. A minimal deletion record prevents the old account from regaining access. This action does not cancel an Apple Music subscription, which you manage with Apple. You can also stop using the app at any time.
Service changes and ending access
We may update the app, require a newer build, temporarily interrupt service for maintenance or security, or end the beta. We will give reasonable notice of significant changes or closure where practicable. We may act immediately when needed to protect people or comply with law. Material changes to these terms will be brought to your attention before they apply where practicable, and will not retrospectively change an existing dispute. If you do not accept a change, you may stop using Shared Noise and delete your account. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
Our responsibility to you
We will use reasonable care and skill in providing the service. We do not exclude or limit responsibility where doing so would be unlawful, including for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Subject to those protections, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. The app is for personal use; we are not responsible for business losses from using it commercially. We do not promise uninterrupted access or that every beta feature will work, but this does not excuse a breach of your mandatory consumer rights.
Disputes and general terms
Please contact sharednoise@tmlabs.co.uk first so we can try to resolve a concern. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you also keep the mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. You may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts there. Nothing in these terms limits any other right you have under mandatory law to use your local courts. If a provision cannot be enforced, the rest continues where legally possible. No one else has rights under these terms unless applicable law requires otherwise. Neither a delay in enforcing a right nor a failure to enforce it once waives it for the future.
